I had direct played some 10mbps content the day before, but then suddenly, everything would only transcode, and the max it would play was 2mbps.

Direct play did however work as usual for videos with bitrates under about 2mbps.I confirmed this from the Plex for Mac app, Plex web access in Chrome, and Plex on iOS. Play original quality simply wasn't an option. For me, direct play would not work no matter what if the video's bitrate was over 2mbps. My issue is slightly different than described, but possibly related. I hate to necro an old thread, but I was having this issue and came across this post during my research. But manually changing the quality maxes out at 2Mpbps It's odd as the apps will let me stream remotely at the original quality (including transcoding) or up to the maximum quality set within the app.

The issue I have is on remote connections, hosts will transcode in media's current quality, but if I try and select any other quality the maximum I can select is 2Mbps (720p). I'm a long time plex user and have just switched from Plex on Mac to a new Linux system. Hi all, hoping someone may have come across my issue before and be able to help.
